Open Classical 2015 Summer Tour
For 6 weeks, Open Classical toured the US and Canada, sponsoring 22 energetic and innovative classical concerts of the new classical music group Neo Camerata, performing the original new classical compositions of Open Classical’s dynamic duo, founder/violinist Mark Landson and co-host/pianist Thiago Nascimento.
The tour was brought about by a unique opportunity - the punk rock band Say Anything was looking for a string quartet to do a 32 city tour with them in order to perform their latest album “Hebrews”, which, instead of the usual power guitars, prominently featured a string section.
Open Classical director Mark Landson seized the opportunity of the tour to bring the vision of the next phase of Open Classical to potential partners across the country, the goal being the creation of a national network of regional touring routes that new classical composers and performers will use to organically build audiences in ways unavailable today.
Neo Camerata played 23 Open Classical shows, plus the 32 rock shows on the tour, making 55 shows in all in 7 calendar weeks. The tour was extremely successful in the response from potential partners all across the country, and has laid the foundations for future possibilities in nearly all the cities visited.
About Neo Camerata
Neo Camerata was founded by Mark Landson, and originally performed from 2003-2007 and shared the bill with pop artists, rock bands, opera singers, symphony orchestras, and ballet companies. They performed in places as diverse as Washington’s Kennedy Center, New York’s Cutting Room, and the Cannes Film Festival. The core of the group’s repertoire is Landson’s original, riveting music which combines the emotion and beauty of classical, the excitement and energy of pop, and the awe-inspiring technique of virtuoso musicians.
