“Passionate Journeys”
The dynamic duo behind the success of Open Classical's Classical Open Mic, Mark Landson (viola) and Thiago Nascimento (piano), highlight their talents both individually and together in music that provides some of the most powerful emotional journeys in classical music.
Adding to a night filled with emotion and power is Edward Kuntchef, a tenor whose voice conjures up passionate visions of early 20th century Italy and France. Edward will be joined by Dallas multi-instrumentalist Matt Tolentino on accordion, transforming the AllGood Café into a sidewalk bistro on the Champs D'Elysees.
A Fresh Concept in 300 Year Old Music
The Six suites for unaccompanied cello by Johann Sebastian Bach are some of the most frequently performed and recognizable solo compositions ever written, and are also frequently performed on viola. Each suite is in a different key, but all 6 movements in each suite are in the same key. Mark Landson will premier a new concept in performing the suites, in which movements are artistically chosen from different suites and combined to create a new suite, thus providing a tonal journey through different keys which is exciting and fresh. His initial Bach “Suite of Suites” begins with the somber and powerful C minor Prelude, and ends joyously with the C major Gigue.
Also on the program are Beethoven's Pathétique Sonata for Solo Piano, one of the most beloved and emotionally charged piano pieces ever composed, and Cesar Franck's Sonata for Violin and Piano, considered one of the most passionate and exciting works for violin and piano.
